The Council of the American Library Association reaffirms its belief in the following basic policies that should govern the services of all libraries.
The Crystal Falls District Community Library will provide materials for educational/recreational purposes. As a general rule, materials will be purchased in single copy. In addition, materials will be acquired in all genres and classifications.
Cultural materials will be limited to those materials that emphasize the best in both classical and popular art, music, literature, theater, and dance.
In serving the educational purpose, the Library will maintain both circulating and reference materials that will provide for the continuing education of the community. Due to the availability of school library resources, the Crystal Falls District Community Library will provide only limited materials that support the curriculum of the local public schools. Recognizing that those adults seeking higher education are a growing segment of the community, the library will endeavor to secure materials through Interlibrary Loan that will suit academic needs.
Development of special collections that serve the highest education goals are beyond the fiscal resources of this library.
Materials for the preschool child that combine books and recordings are deemed appropriate in serving the educational purpose. A strong children's an young adult collection that supplements the public schools is vital to the mission of this library.
The information needs of the patrons of the library can best be served through developing a strong ore collection of reference materiel's and securing subscriptions to selected periodicals. As the need for information service grows in the Crystal Falls area, the library will secure more reference materials in specific areas of interest as judged by patron demand. However, highly technical and professional reference resources in the areas of law, medicine, and research will not be acquired.
The Crystal Falls District Community Library does not provide research materials beyond a limited collection of how-to-begin materials in genealogical research. However, the library will endeavor to collect any and all information about the Iron County area regardless of format.

The library will remain free of pressure and will serve as an instrument for humanity and freedom in the Crystal Falls area. The "Materials and Selection Policy" is the first line of defense in the fact of such action against the Library and the United States Constitution.
